We complete for a number of different internal trophies throughout the year. Some are shot on a single meeting, others combine scores from a number of different shoots. Many have their own physical trophy that can be proudly displayed at home by the winner and defended the following year.
The trophies we compete for are many and varied, and the intention is to allow archers of all levels to be able to participate in, and have a chance of winning, a number of trophies during the year. To this end, a number of these competitions are handicap based, allowing less experienced archers to compete alongside, and against, more experienced archers. Other competitions may not use handicaps, but instead may grant allowances for different bow styles to allow different styles to compete in the same competition (see the handicap page for a description of bow style allowances).
The trophies are detailed below, with current and past holders. They are listed in order of being shot during the year.
Where a specific, recognised, round is shot for the trophy, details of the particulars of that round can be found on our Rounds page.

A non-handicap round, with no bow style allowances (except that Compound bows need to hit the very centre ring for 10 points, and have a 20 point penalty to their score, for fairness) shooting at an 80cm target face at 40m distance.
2024 – Eddie C

2022 – Eddie C
2021 – Steve H

Sunburn Trophy

Current Holder (2025): Kim Wi (adjusted score 1511)
Shot alongside the Thank You For Doing Your Part Trophy – these two trophies can be shot in the same week, or over two separate weeks, but only the first attempt at each trophy will count (although different bowstyles can be attempted for the Sunburn Trophy, providing the archer has separate handicaps for each bowstyle attempted).
A handicap Frostbite round (80cm target at 30m). First shot during the pandemic, when the rounds available to be shot were limited and shorter distances needed to be shot during the summer months. Since it is shot in summer, it is called “sunburn” rather than “frostbite”!
2024 – Theo D
2023 – Tony F

2021 – John M
2020 – Roger K / Jerry H

Olympic Round

Current Holder (2025): Andrew Du
(Silver: Steve H, Bronze: Rob F)
A non-handicap trophy shot on a single day, mimicking the Olympic heats and finals. Shot at 70m, heats are shot to gain a ranking of all participants, then a knockout round of best vs worst, 2nd best vs 2nd worst etc, then continue until there is one victor!
2024 – Gold: Andrew D
Western Handicap
Current Holder (not shot in 2025, so 2024 winner): John Da (adjusted score of 1465)
A handicap trophy shot as a full Western round, with 4 dozen arrows at 60 yards, and another 4 dozen at 50 yards. The 8 dozen can be split over two weeks, shooting the first distance one week, and the second distance on the next week.
2024 – John D (1465)
2023 – Rosa A
2022 – John D

Jubilee Plate

Current Holder (2025): Eddie Cr (adjusted score of 786)
This competition is shot over two days, and the best round shot over the two days will win the plate. The round shot each day will be 3 dozen at each of 3 different distances, so 9 dozen arrows in total each day. There will be a short break between each 3 dozen.
Whilst not a handicap trophy in its purest form, the round that is shot and the score adjustment depends upon a number of factors, as follows:
By default, Gents will shoot an Albion round (80y/60y/50y). Ladies will shoot a Windsor (60y/50y/40y)
This round is modified as follows:
- Age 50+ or U18 drop one distance
- Age U15 drop another distance (two in total)
- Unclassified drop one distance
- Bowman classification up one distance
- Compound up one distance
Scores are then adjusted as follows:
- Barebow adds 162 to the score
- Longbow adds 407 to the score
- Compounds deduct 80 from their score
No one will shoot further than a St George (100y/80y/60y) or shorter than a Windsor 40 (40y/30y/20y)
2024 – Eddie C (796)
2023 – Rob P
Traditional Trophy
Current Holder (2025): Mark Sa (Score of 25)
A non-handicap trophy shot at 4 targets at different (unknown) distances, with a total of 4 dozen arrows being shot. Only traditional style bows are allowed to win the competition, though anyone can attempt it! A simulation of a Field Archery competition.
A “traditional” bow is defined as a wooden bow of any type – Korean, longbow, American flatbow etc.
Only wooden arrows are eligible, and no sights are allowed. Arrows either score a single point for landing within the (very crude and rustic) “circle” of bound twigs hanging on the target, or score zero for missing.
2024 – Eddie C (score 22)
2023 – Mark S

Derek Gibbons Trophy

Current Holder (2025): Karen We
A handicap trophy shot on a singe day with a Frostbite round.
2024 – Mike M

2022 – Grace
2021 – Andrew D
2020 – not shot
2019 – Rob F
Pairs Knockout
Current Holders (2025): Kim Wi / Peter Ex
A knockout competition. Pairs are determined by handicaps – lowest pairs with highest etc. The pairs shoot a Worcester round (5 arrows per end) with at least one pair being knocked out after each set of 10 arrows, and eventually a winning pair declared.
2024 – Debbie F / Mark S
2023 – Andrew D / Simon R
2022 – Eddie C / Alex M
2021 – Jane D / Steve H
2020 – not shot
2019 – Liz H / Tony H / John

Bitefrost Trophy

Current Holder (2025/26): Mark Sa (score of 261)
A one-day competition using the non-standard Bitefrost round. This is a non-handicap round, but the format of the scoring is such that beginners still have a good chance of winning (though the list of winners may suggest otherwise!).
Compound bows are not allowed to compete for this trophy.
2024/25 – Steve H
2023/24 – Steve H
2022/23 – Andrew D
2021/22 – Jake D
2020/21 – Eddie C
2019/20 – Steve H
2018/19 – Andrew D
Tony Francis Winter Points Trophy
Current Holder (2025/26): Karen We
The trophy is based on all the meets during the winter season, and rewards both attendance and performance on the day.
This is awarded to the archer who accumulates the most points over the Winter. Points are awarded according to where they finish every week. e.g. if there are 10 archers competing, the weekly winner gets 10 points, the second 9 points etc. It therefore rewards consistent attendance as well as performance on the day. Performance is handicap based, so the winner is the archer who has made the best performance improvement over the winter months, attending in all weathers!
The trophy was renamed in 2026 in honour of long‑standing club member Tony Francis, who stepped down from the committee after many years of exceptional service. Over his time with the club, Tony contributed in countless roles – including coach, tournaments officer, and records officer – always with dedication, enthusiasm and a dash of light-hearted sarcasm! He remains a regular on the shooting line and continues to support archers of all experience levels.

For this trophy, there are allowances for the different bow styles, and, in the past, for different age categories. Allowances have been tweaked over the years to make the trophy as fair as possible. The allowances for the 2025/26 season onwards are as follows (there are no junior allowances, though there is now a Junior Trophy as well as a Ladies Trophy)
